OUGD504 - Design Practice - Binding

As the final design was going to be a soft cover book, perfect binding was chosen for the final publication as it is durable, allows for the book to be easily flicked through and handled, is cheap to mass produce with neat and durable results.

Other binding methods I experimented with included coptic binding and case binding however these were not appropriate for the design as they are hardbound methods, making them heavier, more cumbersome and more expensive to produce.

The books I produced while experimenting with different binding methods:

Skrim and PVA glue was used to perfect bind the pages of the mock up for the book before binding the actual pages on the final product. It worked relatively successfully despite wrinkling slightly on the edge where it was bound. In the final run I will use less glue to avoid saturating the pages and making them warp.
