OUGD505 - Studio Brief 02 - Feedback and solutions

After taking part in a crit group I wanted to get feedback on potential features to include on the website and on the app that would be helpful and relevant.

In the focus group I asked participants what device they thought they would prefer using if the idea became a reality.

Laptop : 12
Mobile / App : 15

When asked why people preferred this device:

'Easier to see, lots of content at once, faster, larger images and easier to navigate.'

'larger screen that holds and displays more information/ larger platform to search on'

'laptop because it gives you more access to the website, desk top versions are normally larger and an expansion rather than mobile'

'A larger screen to view the products, easier to click around and be able to log into account and book workshops.'

'I'd rather a mobile site as when I was at uni or in town and suddenly realised I needed something it would be easier and more accessible to check than having to wait til I had my laptop in front of me.'

'I prefer looking for things on a laptop because I find my phone screen too small to take in all of the information.'

'Phone's more accessible as you always have your phone with you.'

'Phone makes it quick and easy to reserve things on the go.'

'Using a phone it's easier to check things and save your search results by screen shotting it etc.'

Are there any features that would be useful for this service on the website/mobile app?

  • Option to see how to use products such as sewing machines and power tools etc.
  • See availability of products and which lending library they were located at
  • List of products you currently have out so you don't lose track
  • Option to reserve product for a short amount of time so no one checks it out whilst you're on your way to get it.
  • Option to reserve products so you can get it as soon as it is returned
  • Notification when a product you want is returned.

When asked whether designing an app or a website to solve the issue this is what people responded with:

Both as a website for desktop is accessible to the demogrpahic of all ages including elderly customers but a mobile web page/app would be beneficial to those on the move or wanting to quickly browse the online category on their phone.

This was all really helpful and relevant feedback! It gave me some fresh ideas and confirmed the research and findings I'd already done.
