OUGD603 - Brief 01 - Fate App - Promotional Material

Ideas for a promotional campaign that would advertise the fate app aiming it towards millennials.

Brainstorming Ideas

Idea 1

A funny Campaign making references to art history such as Van Gogh cutting off his own ear etc. Eg. 'We know finding creative things to do can be a challenge. Don't let it get to this point' with a picture of a cut off ear.

Idea 2

See the full picture. Having an iconic painting with the main focal point missing/cut out/covered up.

Idea 3

See the picture clearer. Similar concept to idea 2 but having the image pixelated or made out of halftone dots. Already similar concept done by Lego.

Idea 4

Before/After Fate. Triptych of posters. The first would be an empty gallery, the second a poster with the fate logo on and the third a full gallery of people. This approach would encourage galleries and independent artists to use the app to promote their work.

Idea 5

Lose the side Eye. Side eye is a common phrase and expression amongst millennials and on social media to express annoyance, suspicion or disdain. I found a lot of funny renaissance images that feature young people giving the side eye which could create a humorous and engaging campaign with the tag line 'lose the side eye'.

Idea 5

Location pins that have a continuous line drawing of a recognisable or iconic painting or piece of design. This promotes the idea of the app being locational well. There could also be a competition to guess the image to spread awareness of the app.

Experimental sketches with famous paintings:

Idea 6

Use the slogan 'in the dark about art?' on top of a blackened out duo-tone image of an iconic piece of art/sculpture with the fate logo visible in the bottom corner.

Feedback: Amongst my peers the two favourite ideas were the last two, wither the blackened out images or the drawings. As I'm trying to get away from hand-drawn illustrations this year I'm going to take the blackened out image one further.
